Frequently Asked Questions

What ages are your classes designed for?

Honey Bee Hollow Academy classes are designed for toddlers and preschoolers and their caregivers. Activities are thoughtfully planned to support early learners through hands-on exploration, play, and discovery while allowing children to participate at their own developmental level.

We believe parents know their children best. While our activities are designed with toddlers and preschoolers in mind, we welcome children who are slightly younger or older if families feel the experience would be a good fit for their child.

Is a parent or caregiver required to attend?

Yes. Honey Bee Hollow Academy is a parent-and-child program. A parent, grandparent, nanny, or trusted caregiver must remain in attendance with the child for the entire class.

The adult attending with the child is responsible for their child’s supervision, safety, and behavior throughout the program. Our instructors are there to guide activities, support learning, and create a positive experience for all families.

Are medical forms required?

No medical forms are required for Honey Bee Hollow Academy classes. Our programs are not licensed childcare programs or drop-off care. Because a parent or caregiver is required to remain with their child throughout the program, families are responsible for their child’s care, supervision, and any medical needs during class.

Where are your events held?

We partner with various local venues across the Connecticut shoreline to bring our programs to different communities. Each event listing will specify the exact host location for that date.

We are working toward having our very own mobile classroom that will travel throughout the area, providing classes and events on weekends. This will ensure families always have a safe, comfortable, and welcoming place to learn, play, and grow together, regardless of the weather.

What makes Honey Bee Hollow Academy different?

Honey Bee Hollow Academy provides a small, supportive learning environment where children and caregivers can connect, explore, and grow together. Our nature-based and enrichment classes combine hands-on activities, sensory play, stories, and early learning concepts in welcoming indoor and outdoor spaces.

How do I register for classes?

Registration for the following month’s classes and Academy Sessions opens on the 1st of the current month. Early Bee registration discounts are available for individual events until the 10th of the month.

Each event has its own registration link. Simply click the registration link, email, or call to register. Registration is first come, first served. You will receive an email confirmation with payment information and instructions. Your space is not guaranteed until payment is received.

Is there a sibling discount?

Yes! We offer a $5 discount per sibling for our enrichment classes.

What happens if my child is shy or needs time to warm up?

We understand that every child participates differently. Children are welcome to observe, explore at their own pace, and join activities when they feel comfortable. Our caregiver-supported format allows children to feel secure while building confidence.

Do you welcome children of all abilities?

Yes! We welcome families of all abilities. Our small class sizes and caregiver participation allow children to receive the support they need while learning and exploring.

Please let us know about any specific needs or accommodations when registering so we can help create the best experience possible.

What happens if there is bad weather?

When weather allows, many of our classes take place outdoors at local parks, beaches, and trails. In the event of inclement weather, classes may be rescheduled or moved to an indoor community venue.

Families will receive an email with any schedule changes, and updates will also be posted on our Facebook page.

What should my child wear?

Please send your child in comfortable play clothes and sneakers that are ready for exploration! Many activities include sensory play, art, and hands-on learning, so children should come dressed to get messy.

While we use washable supplies whenever possible, we cannot guarantee that every material will wash out completely. We recommend choosing clothing that is comfortable and appropriate for active play.

Are snacks and drinks allowed?

Please be sure to bring a water bottle for your child to every event.

Outdoor Events: Families are welcome to bring their own snacks to park and outdoor sessions. We recommend bringing a hat and sunscreen for outdoor events to help keep children comfortable and protected.

Indoor Events: Out of respect for our indoor host venues, we ask that no food or drinks (except water) be brought inside.

Note for Infants: Infants are welcome to bottle feed, and discreet breastfeeding is welcome.

Safety Note: Please avoid peanut butter or nut-based snacks to help keep our environment safe for friends with allergies.

What happens if I cannot attend a class?

We do not offer refunds; however, we are happy to provide full credit toward a future class if you are unable to attend.

How do I handle payment?

Children and their grown-ups will receive a confirmation email shortly after signing up. This email will contain payment information and instructions needed to finalize your registration.

Do you provide materials?

Yes! All materials are provided for each class. Families will also receive take-home activities to continue the learning and fun at home.
